Historian Mr. Kappeler has been studying Russia and Ukaine for more than four decades and gives a balanced and thorough historical perspective on the current war. He shows how Russia and Ukraine fundamentally differ from each other on the political plain.
He gives a summary of the predominant narratives told by Russia, that go back to the mid-19th century, when Ukraine became subject to Russian rule. And he informs about the Ukrainian historical narrative, how its society was early on exposed to the trends in European societies, where Russia was not.
