This historic event in the future may be seen as a pivotal revolution to end colonialism and imperialism in the whole of Europe. The people of Ukraine rose up when the elected president Janukovich cancelled a long planned and prepared Ukrainian-European political legal framework of cooperation and friendship. This was the attempt by Putin to take political control of Ukraine and put the country once again under the control of Russia. Peaceful mass protests started in November of 2013 and eventually turned violent, as the police forces used more and more violence to dispel the protests.
People build tents and fortifications in the center of Kyiv – at the Maidan place – and today a column is commemorating the dramatic events of the revolution of dignity, that marks a pivotal moment in the history of Europe and its fight for peace and freedom from dictatorship. Many people lost their lives in the fight for freedom and dignity and Ukrainians are more aware of this than ever before, as now more and more people die in the war of survival of Ukraine against the full-scale invasion of their country.
