UN on War Crimes in Ukraine

The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine was established by the UN Human Rights Council to investigate violations and abuses of human rights, violations of international humanitarian law, and other crimes that may have been committed in the context of the aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

The commission finds widespread use of torture and sexualized violence from the Russian side, as well as widespread use of explosives on civilian areas – the latter being the main cause for death of civilians in the context of the Russian attack on Ukraine. The commission also looks into genocide allegations, in particular incitement to genocide on Russian media and the deportation of unaccompanied children. All of that in the context of a lack of transparency and cooperation from Russian authorities.
